North Carolina Ports Advisory Council
The North Carolina Ports Advisory Council includes members who represent business and industries involved in international trade and transportation across North Carolina. Organized in 1989, the Ports Advisory Council is dedicated to the success of North Carolina’s ports system: the two deepwater ports in Wilmington and Morehead City and the inland terminals in Charlotte and the Piedmont Triad at Greensboro. The Council offers support and assistance to the North Carolina State Ports Authority in the areas of business planning, finance, government relations, marketing and operations.
Council members receive information updates on world trade and economic trends and developments in state and federal legislation, as well as briefings on port operations and developments and opportunities to provide feedback to the Ports Authority on user issues. Council meetings provide contact with prospective trade customers and networking with others involved in international trade.
The Council holds an annual membership meeting, which combines business with golf and social activities. The Council also meets other times of the year as events warrant.
The 2008-2009 Council officers are Frank Sheffield Jr., chair; Thomas Beard and Rick Wheeler, vice chairs, and Steve Thompson, secretary/treasurer.
Council membership is open to anyone involved or interested in international trade. For information, contact Frank Sheffield at 252-672-5507 or fhs@wardandsmith.com.
