Phillip Wells was appointed General Counsel of the North Carolina State Ports Authority in June of 2023.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Mr. Wells serves as primary legal counsel to the North Carolina State Ports Authority and its leadership team, ensuring the Ports Authority conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Mr. Wells has more than 25 years of legal experience, including serving as general counsel for the world’s largest contract food-service company’s North American division. He also served as counsel for a high-end furniture manufacturer and retailer where he spearheaded the negotiation, preparation and drafting of new store leases and ancillary documents. Prior to his current position, he practiced commercial real estate with a national law firm in its Charlotte office.
Mr. Wells holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from Southwestern Law School.
