NEW SOUTH GATE CONTAINER COMPLEX – Opened February 14, 2022
The new truck gate container complex enables NC Ports to meet the demand of increased container volume at the Port of Wilmington while continuing to improve on the best trucker turn-times on the East Coast. Improvements include increasing inbound lanes for truck traffic to seven, outbound lanes to six, additional lanes at Port Security and additional outbound Radiation Portal Monitoring (RPM) lanes. All of this is designed to better service our truckers and local port-user community.
In addition to the new truck gate container complex, this project included a new Container Operations Office.

Phase 1: Complete August 1, 2021
- New TOS/GOS systems launched on the current truck gate complex, with no process change to the trucking community.
- The Customer Access Portal (CAP) is live. Trucking companies can access cargo information once registered. This data interacts with the new Navis N4 terminal operating system.
Phase 2: Complete February 14, 2022
- This phase expediates truckers through the port with new technology, ultimately leading to even better turn times.
- Additional features includes RFID technology, weigh-in motion scales, optical character recognition (OCR) portals and other increased capabilities with CAP.
